Ralphael Baptiste, a music mogul, is a ladies' man, and being so, he knew he could have any woman of his choosing, with the exception of Laney Houston. There was something about this wealthy doctor that has caused him to choose a vow of celibacy, and render him speechless every time she crosses his mind.
Laney Houston is a wealthy scientist and has a passion for healing. Being of mixed ancestry, not many approve of her status and are determined to put her in her place. Dr. Houston has a thing for Raphael, aka, Ray but she is keeping that secret to herself. She knows about his past and refuses to be another one of his conquests.
Ray and Laney find themselves in the middle of the action when Ray is diagnosed with a life threatening disease. There are people who want Ray out of the way and then there are those who want Laney out of the way. The two join together to fight their enemies and prove that love is much more than physical pleasure.
This was my first LaConnie Taylor-Jones read and I did enjoy it. The book is approximately 172 pages and I feel that there was more space and time to develop some of the scenes and relationships in the story.
I look forward to reading more from this author.

LaConnie Taylor-Jones returns with the long-awaited sequel featuring the Baptiste family with If I Were Your Woman. Raphael Baptiste, the driving force behind the musical group Les Croises, was not too happy about the request he had just received from his grandmother, Momma Z. He knew that someone was available to pick Laney up from the airport. Yet, deep down he knew he could not resist her this time.
Dr. Laney Olivia Houston, child prodigy, has grown into a force to be reckoned with. As the youngest researcher to be named director for the General Clinical Research Center for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Laney is about to take on her biggest challenge, winning the heart of Raphael. Before she could do that she has to overcome a secret she has been holding in for years and she has to show Raphael that love is the greatest gift of all.
Taylor-Jones packs a lot into this story. It is about sacrifice, family, trust, faith, commitment, courage, forgiveness and unconditional love. Raphael and Laney are bonded to each other and they learn that leaning on someone else does not make you weak. I enjoyed reading this story and it stirred up a lot of emotions. However, there were some parts that moved slowly for this reviewer. Fans of Taylor-Jones will definitely enjoy this installment in the Baptiste series.

I found the storyline, which was kind of simple, over developed and a little too much!
This was a different romance novel. The subject matter is timely and insigthful. The romance is realistic and the family, well I wish I could meet them in person.
Sorry I started not to get this book because everyone was given the book a poor review but I am here to tell you get the book it was good and if you read the others before this one you will see that this story is right in line with the others.GET THE BOOK
I have been waiting for this story after reading the first 2 about the Baptiste men and I wasn't disappointed! The storyline was great and I knew Raphael's story would be amazing. The Baptiste men are amazing. I loved also the update on Marcel and Caitlyn and A.J. and Vic. I will be reading this book over again and again as often as I have the other two.
This story was good. Had I known about Ray having cancer, most likely wouldn't have read it. I am a cancer survivor and I don't like reading about it when I read for relaxation and fun. I liked the way Ray handled Bryant for messing with Laney. The book was a good read, but I lost some interest after the cancer report and couldn't give it the attention it deserved.
